Artie has lived in the City of Onkaparinga and the Mid South Coast Ward for 32 years.
He
has been married to Juli for 33 years. They have two children, Alex 31 years and Vicki 22 years old.
Both
children went to local schools and still live in the Onkaparinga area. Artie & Juli have one grandchild, Chelsea who
is 7 years old.
Artie
worked for Bridgestones BSTG for 12 years before his early retirement in 2002. While at Bridgestones he was elected
as Shop Steward for the LHMU. He held that position for two years, where he fought for the equitable rights of
workers in enterprise bargaining.
Artie's
work ethic is one of hard work and dedication to the task accompanied by a sense of good humour.
Although
Artie has not had a high education he is street-wise and able to navigate through the bureaucratic maze with ease learnt from
his many years as a Councillor. This has been the major benefit for the community he serves.
He
is able to bridge the gap between the common person-the battlers, and the political decision makers on all levels and of all
political persuasions and is able to bring
together people for a common purpose and negotiate positive outcomes for all.
Artie
is a keen lawn bowler for the Christies Beach Bowling Club, where he assisted them in obtaining a $50,000 loan for their artificial
green.
"Many
a good bowl has been played on the new green" says Artie.
Carlton
Football Club is Artie's personal passion and he proudly wears the navy & white colours and owns a Carlton membership
even though he knows they are bottom of the ladder again this year. He proudly says "watch them next year- baby"
Now
the proud Patron Shivering Shag of South Port Life Saving Club where he is fondly known there as Patron Gnome.
This
small group of brave members fundraise for the club during the winter season. They raised $1600 to buy 2 walkie-talkies
and first-aid kits for the club this year.
You
can see them any cold, wet & windy morning running & swimming outside the clubrooms on South Port beach.
The
fun part in Artie's life is playing "BAD SANTA" for the Uniting Care Wesley's initiative "Putting the love back
into Christmas"
Artie has taken the mantle of Bad Santa with his normal sense of fun & good humour and the willingness
to help his community in any way he can over the last 2 years.
18th November was
Artie's birthday and he celebrated with close family & friends. The day also thanked all the people who helped &
supported the election campaign.
To all those who
helped. Thank you.....
